Hi. I’ve recently started working at Tesco and we have new headsets now where you can hear everyone talking. The managers were talking about how some sort of test been failed, and whatever they were testing for is apparently ONLY tested on self serve and ONLY with scan as you shop. They specifically said it was only ever tested on self serve and only with SAYS. They said it had been failed ‘the same way it had been failed last time’. It seems to not be an age check because someone did fail an internal age test once and it got very serious (and that was also NOT a scan as you shop which whatever this test is apparently always is.) This test seems to be something not as serious as that. Plus I doubt I would have failed an age check/think 25 so I’m not worried about that.
They were talking a few minutes later about looking at the cameras to try and find out which self serve till it had happened on (whoever the test scan as you shop person was must have not taken the receipt which makes no sense if they are testing something with SAYS?), but they must have not found whatever it was because they were then checking the regular till cameras for scan as you shop buys just in case.
I was in for a few hours after that and it was not mentioned again and no one said anything to me. However, I was on self serve that day so it’s been worrying me a little bit and I would rather have one less thing to worry about. What exactly is it they are testing for ONLY on self serve and ONLY using scan as you shop? (I suppose it could have also been a thief failing their SAYS check again the same way but the use of the word test and the way they said it only happens with self serve/SAYS makes me think of some sort of actual test? Do they send in fake thieves to self serve to test us?)
