All hypothetical as no one really knows what’s on the cards but also it’s that time of year when the business makes changes to move forward and as much as some will say that won’t work etc when looking back to structure now versus say 5 years ago lots have changed and company has survived and probably got stronger..
So saying that
Bakery is probably most at threat as know there were rumours it was going several years ago but for leaks it was pulled and is still a loss maker so can see it now being discarded with company looking at how losing Deli counters have not hurt going forward.Nights would be a good money saver especially with scheduling to skills being re-launched would be easy to implement fill to morning or twilight as already happens in some smaller stores and not sure if discounters run with a night shift so could see Tesco following suit.
Lead Team could see either being streamlined in big stores or going altogether.
Team Supports no reason why can’t lose 4 team supports for 1 or 2 Shift Leaders as this would fit better with the new scheduler for skills rollout and make it easier as shift leads would be making decisions for the whole store rather than just front end.
Lastly Stock Control which isn’t included in the schedule for skills as not part of Serve, Pick or Fill so could be broken up where Fresh deals with own counts, gap Scan & merchandising same for Grocery & Non Food while Service managers would gain Price Integrity, Cash & Admin. Again this would make sense as trading managers then own everything to achieve their jobs and all their colleagues would be trained to do filling, waste, reductions, counts etc after all they’ve recently gained reductions and wages so all ready moving towards this model
26/01/2025 at 11:03 am #298The DCs can’t keep up with the demand of all stores removing Nightshifts. If anything, nights might get streamlined to fresh only and the rest of the fill on twilight
26/01/2025 at 11:48 am #299Thats a really good point about Scheduling to Skills and nights. There is logic in moving some to mornings and some to Twilights if you factor that in. I can’t speak for other stores but it never worked in ours because we just didn’t have enough bodies on the floor for the moving around to work as intended. Moving grocery nights to days/twilights however sorts that issue.
I agree Fresh would probably need to stay on nights for delivery issues but I don’t see why Grocery and H&B need to.

26/01/2025 at 1:30 pm #301Tuesday morning – ALL store managers on conference call @ 9.30am
Given what Sainsburys have just done I don’t think we can rule anything out now. The Bakeries could well go and I honestly don’t believe there is a need for Team Support anymore. Grocery/H&B nights moving to Twilights is actually more practical as would a Nights lead even then be needed? and also is a stock/admin manager still needed? as noted Stock Control isn’t part of Schedule to Skills which makes it look like they are going to make it part of the relevant departments daily routines which has been suspected for a while like what they did with Job 14. Admin, Merch, PI and Cash could easily go to Non Food (although why Cash isn’t under front end has always baffled me).
All speculation but all sounds plausible..
One of the things making me believe H&B nights will move to days/twilights is the fact the F&F Shift Leader role is going to change to F&F Home Shift Leader. That makes it sound like Non Food are gaining extra numbers of staff.

26/01/2025 at 3:01 pm #303I do think they need to make the decision per store as sometimes it doesn’t work in all stores. Like in one store anything they’ve changed years ago didn’t work so they put it back how it was. Why change something that works.
26/01/2025 at 3:42 pm #304Changes are already done store specific as regards to their banding so a Band A store will have a different structure to a Band D etc. Also majority of changes will have been made via data and trialled in stores across company
27/01/2025 at 7:07 am #314Stock and Admin manager is a waste of a wage. Ours does nothing at all. If the stock controllers go into each relevant department while Merch, Cash & Admin go to the non food Team Manager it makes more sense. If I was a business looking to make savings then the stock and admin manager would be the first to go. A manager who only has 10 staff is a pointless hanger on.. sorry for being so blunt.
Oh and others are spot on about Dotcom.. how much longer are they going to get away with being the biggest drain on every store? instead of constantly gutting the shop floor they should be looking at that department to see why it loses so much money.
As for my predictions.. I think Team Support going and Bakeries closing is a good shout.
27/01/2025 at 9:51 am #315Hi guys just put my letter to retire to get my garden leave I am currently service team support
Would you retract my letter incase of redundancy any help appreciated27/01/2025 at 9:52 am #316It’s worth a try… but I’ve known them to refuse it
27/01/2025 at 10:40 am #317Even in stores with the newer structure the new stick and admin role is called operational manager and still has the lowest headcount. It’s designed like that so the other managers can focus on trade or service for example while the operational looks after the nitty gritty like audits, shrink, routines
27/01/2025 at 11:16 am #318I’m fairly confident it will just be pay protection not redundancy for team support
27/01/2025 at 3:37 pm #336Conference Calls Tomorrow for store specific chnages
